A path leading toward a glowing sunrise horizon

How do I become a Christian?

If something in you is drawn to Jesus and you’re wondering how to actually begin — we’re really glad you’re here. It’s simpler than you might think, and it’s good news the whole way down.

Maybe you think becoming a Christian means cleaning up your life first, having all your questions answered, or earning your way into God’s good graces. Here’s the surprising heart of it: you don’t. Christianity isn’t a reward for good people who got it together. It’s a rescue and a welcome for ordinary, struggling people — which is all of us.

“For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith… it is the gift of God, not by works, so that no one can boast.”

Ephesians 2:8–9

What it actually involves

Becoming a Christian is beginning a relationship with God through Jesus. Historically it comes down to a few simple, honest movements of the heart: admit you need God and have gone your own way; believe that Jesus is who he said he is — that he lived, died for you, and rose again; and receive him, turning to follow him. The Bible puts it plainly: “to all who did receive him… he gave the right to become children of God” (John 1:12). It’s not a transaction; it’s coming home to a Father who’s been watching the road for you.

It’s a real encounter, not just a decision

RockPoint is a Spirit-filled church, so we believe this isn’t just signing a doctrinal statement — it’s the beginning of a living relationship. When you turn to Jesus, the Holy Spirit comes to live in you, to comfort, guide, and slowly change you from the inside out. Our prayer for everyone who walks through our doors is exactly this: a real, transforming encounter with Jesus. It can absolutely start today, right where you’re sitting.

A prayer to begin following Jesus

There are no magic words — God hears your heart. If you’re ready, you can pray something like this and mean it:

“Jesus, I believe you’re real, that you died for me and rose again. I’m sorry for living my own way. I turn to you now, and I receive you. Come into my life, fill me with your Spirit, and lead me. Thank you for making me your child. Amen.”

If you just prayed that and meant it — welcome to the family. Heaven is celebrating, and so would we.

If you prayed that — here’s what’s next

  • Tell someone. Saying it out loud makes it real. Tell us using the form below — we’d love to celebrate and help.
  • Start reading about Jesus. Open the Gospel of John and get to know the One you’ve just said yes to.
  • Start talking to God. Prayer is just honest conversation — do it daily, however simply.
  • Get connected and consider baptism. Faith grows in community. Come visit, and ask us about baptism — the next step of going public with your faith.

You don’t have to figure this out alone

Questions people ask next

Do I have to be good enough first?

No. The Bible says you’re saved by grace, as a gift — not by being good enough. You come as you are; God does the changing over time. You don’t clean up to come to him; you come to him to be made new.

What if I still have doubts and questions?

That’s okay — faith and questions coexist. You don’t need every answer to begin; you grow into understanding as you walk with God. Bring your questions along.

I prayed it — now what?

Tell someone, start reading the Gospel of John, look into baptism, and get connected to a church family. New faith grows best out loud and in community.
